Hongkong Hotel Idea Competition, 2011

The Hotel is an amazing entwinement of multi-sensory means of expressing, viewing, and interacting. To create the optimal experience for the visitor, the hotel reflects qualities of the outdoors, bringing in plazas, streets, paths, gardens, markets, and nature to guide and direct movement throughout the building. Each given program is grouped accordingly, however the connections of these clusters to larger atrium plazas manifests a tightly wrapped interactivity between programs.
With an understanding of context, site and program, the new hotel is conceived as coupled programs, contained within an undulating pattern that articulates the programs. Such specifically defined programmatic spaces are replaced with transformable and adaptable spaces. This proposal seeks a hybridization and interface between spaces. The design of the hotel unites these four programs, manifesting a large spiraling mass that emerges from the ground and connects to the sky.
The mass twists and wraps, addressing the volume of the programs while allowing views toward all directions of the city. The interior space configuration encourages interconnection among people from different programs.
